2020 Writers' Division Contest Winners The Writers' Division held its fortieth annual contests for youth and adults. Below, find the names and submission titles listed. Youth Contests Each year youth contests are held for fiction, poetry, and memoir-personal essay. Entries for 2019 did not include essays or fiction. Following are listed the two winners for youth poetry. Only their names are listed for purposes of confidentiality. Youth Poetry The first Place winner was Amy Liu for her poem "Ocean." This year, there was no second place winner. The third place winner was Ryan Menter for the poem "Days of Wrath." Adult Contests In the poetry contest there were three places awarded. The first place winner was a repeat winner from last year with his poem entitled "Pokeberry Bouquet" Mr. Sims also took second place with his poem entitled "Military Funeral." Our third place was awarded to Marilyn Smith, a past contest winner, for her poem entitled "Together for Freedom." Adult Memoir/Essay First Place this year was taken by Bonnie Blose for her memoir entitled "Honey, I'm Home." Second Place was taken by Marcia J Wick for her memoir entitled "Mr. Q. Man." Third place was taken by C. S. Cleora Boyd for her essay entitled "Congratulations You're a Winner." Honorable Mention was awarded to Janet Di NOla Parmerter for her essay "Pedalling my Way to Fame and Misfortune." Finally, in our adult Fiction category there were two prizes awarded. Our first place winner was a frequent contributor to Slate and Style and a regular entrant in WD contests. Shawn D. Jacobson took first place for his sci fi story "Storm Magic." Our second place winner was another repeat. Marilyn Smith took the honor with her story "A Song to Cry To." We look forward to seeing your words in 2021. Write On!
